ABC CREATE L.E.A.D.S. Partners: School, Business, Community | Project-Based Learning
A major focus of ABC CREATE L.E.A.D.S. (Leveraging Education to Accelerate Diversity & Success) is to capitalize on existing relationships with employers, community members, and educators to accelerate workforce-education-community outcomes particularly for those who are historically underrepresented in CS/STEAM.

Project-Based Learning
When:

ABC CREATE is proud to partner with the experienced instructional team from the Consortium for Public Education (CPE) to offer an Introduction to Project-Based Learning (PBL) as part of ABC CREATE LEADS (PAsmart Advancing Grant). Having trained more than 500 educators in project-based learning, working with schools from Pennsylvania to New England, CPE is excited to offer this introduction to PBL to educators in ABC CREATE partner districts!
This 2-day training will focus on 10 design elements of project-based learning:
|
The CPE Team aims to provide both a foundational understanding of PBL while also offering specific supports, resources, and strategies so that educators develop the knowledge and skills necessary to begin implementing PBL in their classrooms.
This training will actively engage participants through discussion, exploration of resources and project examples, practice, and planning.
Participants will then have time to begin planning a project of their own, with individual coaching as needed.
Consortium staff will be available, as needed, to provide ongoing feedback and support to participating educators throughout their first PBL project. We want to make sure that PBL works for you and your students, and we will be there to support you along the way!
Thanks to PDE for our PAsmart funding, ABC CREATE educators from partner districts can earn $40/hour stipends for attendance. Space available for at least 30 educators.
More about PBL training from the Consortium for Public Education
The Consortium for Public Education offers training in Project-Based Learning (PBL) that provides educators with an in-depth understanding of the key PBL design elements, and the knowledge and confidence to implement portions of PBL or full PBL projects in their classrooms.
PBL pedagogy creates space and opportunity for creative thinking, problem-solving, and individualized learning, skills that students need to thrive in education and beyond. PBL educators facilitate brainstorming, research, and feedback strategies that focus on student voice and choice, providing equitable space for all students in the classroom. We have seen first-hand what research supports– students who engage with PBL are more confident in their communication, critical thinking, and creativity. The opportunity to explore real-world problems, practice decision-making and leadership skills empowers students to take the lead in their own learning.
As part of our training, educators engage with and practice instructional strategies for implementing PBL. These strategies are based on the principles of human-centered design (HCD), ensuring equitable and inclusive practices in your classroom. Throughout our training, you will work through a project-planning document to help you visualize and plan your project. This model allows participants to learn from the expertise of all cohort members, in addition to CPE staff. Further, our staff is committed to providing follow-up coaching sessions with all cohort members.
