ABC CREATE'S AREAS OF FOCUS
OVERVIEW: Formed in 2014 as a way for school districts in the campus’ local region to work collaboratively to revitalize teaching and learning and to integrate STEAM skills, ABC CREATE has grown into a community of hundreds of educators from 14 school districts providing thousands of students with opportunities and preparation for a rapidly changing world. Led and coordinated by Penn State New Kensington with support from the Grable Foundation, the Arconic Foundation, and the participating school districts, ABC CREATE is an incubator of curriculum and of projects designed across K-12 education to bring to life the vision of being a change agent in the Alle-Kiski Valley by investing in the next generation of students through innovative STEAM education.

ABC CREATE professional development experiences assist educators with the implementation of equity-centered teaching practices that integrate technologies and project-based learning, empower a technologically fluent generation through experiential learning opportunities, and provide a network of peers who inspire one another with their shared knowledge and enthusiasm for STEAM education. ABC CREATE’s partners including the Community Robotics, Education and Technology Empowerment Lab (CREATE Lab) at Carnegie Mellon University, BirdBrain Technologies, CodeJoy, the Consortium of Public Education, the Digital Foundry at New Kensington, community organizations and workforce partners, make it possible for ABC CREATE to provide impactful experiences for educators and students in the Alle-Kiski region.
ABC CREATE is actualizing its mission – actively connecting teachers across school districts with professional learning communities, tools, and best practices to develop competent and technologically fluent students.
